APPRECIATION CONCERT -- The City of Chapman and the Abilene Chamber of Commerce has announced the inaugural Chapman "Concert In The Park" to help the Chapman community honor the volunteers, coalition team and sponsors for the awesome job working with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". The Concert is Free and Open to the Public.
The concert will be held in Sheeran Park with music provided by "Friends" of Chapman and the Emmanuelaires, a popular gospel group from Emmanuel Church of Abilene.
The outdoor concert will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the newly constructed Chapman Community Center with free admission. Visitors should bring chairs and blankets for their comfort.
Covenant Films will shoot the final scenes for the DVD entitled "Rebuild Chapman: Behind the Scenes" at the appreciation concert at the newly constructed community center in Chapman.
Food for the event will be provided by Armour-Eckrich with the outside concert to feature exciting entertainment for all. The event will feature music by "Friends", of Chapman and the Emmanuelaires gospel group from Emmanuel Church of Abilene with special donations to Patrick Tutwiler, his family and others within the community. Visitors should bring chairs and blankets for their comfort.
The scenes from the concert will be used to complete the DVD, "Rebuild Chapman: Behind the Scenes" presently being filmed by Covenant Films.
This will be the final event of the rebuild efforts which began in Chapman on Nov. 11, 2008. Alco Stores and the Kansas Auto Racing Museum are jointly sponsoring the production of the DVD entitled "Rebuild Chapman: Behind the Scenes" to be distributed nationally beginning January 26, 2009.Admission is free but a freewill offering will be taken to help a deserving family in the Chapman area.
Abilene Chamber of Commerce director, Lynda Lowry stated, "We want to help the community of Chapman recognize the tremendous effort of the volunteers, sponsors, coordinators, coalition team and all others who made this past week working with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" a success. Armor-Eckrich will provide free food for the event. We have made arrangements for excellent entertainment."
This will be an excellent opportunity for the community to give a special thank you to the volunteers, coalition team and sponsors for a job well done. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" announced the 5,000 volunteers who offered their services was the largest number of volunteers for any "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" show to date. Over 3,000 volunteers graciously gave of their time to help this community.
This will also be an opportunity for the community to meet the Patrick Tutwiler family as there will be additional benefits bestowed upon them at the concert.
The Saturday afternoon concert will be the final event of an exciting eleven days that began with activities on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
The final scenes for the DVD entitled "Rebuild Chapman: Behind the Scenes" will be shot at the benefit/appreciation concert on Saturday.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" has announced the Chapman project show will air on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. central standard time as a two hour special. The show will be broadcast two times in the United States and thereafter five times in 69 countries. By the time the show has aired it will have been viewed by more than one billion people.

City attorney, Doug Thompson stated, "We are delighted the Abilene Area Chamber of Commerce is helping to coordinate the appreciation concert. It is impossible to thank all of those who have made such a tremendous contribution to the rebuilding effort of this community and the construction of the Tutwiler family residence. I am so proud of the support shown from the surrounding communities to Chapman."
Thompson added, "Jeff Burton and the coalition of builders were fantastic. The volunteers jumped from one project to another to make a positive difference in this community. It was truly rewarding to watch the communities come together to help Chapman."
Peggy Heldstab and the Junction City Chamber of Commerce did a fantastic job coordinating the volunteers and helping Jeff Burton and the coalition to keep the projects coordinated.
Judy Blixt did a fantastic job lining up churches to help feed the volunteers. Jeff Blixt did a fantastic job in site preparation for the various projects."
Thompson further stated, "It would not be possible to name all of the people who have made a significant contribution to the project. Rest assured it takes an army of dedicated people to help "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" produce the best show it has had to date."
The rebuild Chapman project is the largest project "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" has done to date.
